Joining the fray of celebrities, entertainers and ‘journalists’ that are cashing in on the divisive nature of the 2016 election, Tony award winning playwright Tony Kushner has signaled his virtuous intention to pen a play about current President of the United States Donald Trump.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, Mr. Kushner has said that the play will feature the President as a central character and will take place in 2014.
Also in the same interview Mr. Kushner called the duly elected President “borderline psychotic”, “boring”, “mentally ill”, “It’s terrifying because he has all the power, but without the mental faculties he ought to have” and, “…the fact that he is in the White House is very frightening”.
Of note is the comment, “For 40 years the Republican Party has said that government is evil and greed is good, that history is of no interest, and courted white supremacy. The result of the election was the expression of what they want, and it showed a majority of white evangelicals did not care about the behavior of a president that doesn’t seem that Christian,” because it reveals the deeply profound ignorance and misunderstanding that Mr. Kushner has about the 2016 election. He fails to mention that the establishment Republicans, the ones he accuses of courting “white supremacy” were also in many cases Never Trumpers that did not want President Trump in office and continue to undermine his America-centric agenda. He also fails to recognize the states that formed the much-hyped ‘Blue Wall’ that crumbled and sided with candidate Trump and his message of economic nationalism that favors American workers over cheap imported labor and exported jobs.
Arguably best known for his work on “Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes” which he later adapted into a screenplay for the HBO miniseries Angels in America starring Meryl Streep and Al Pacino, Mr. Kushner also co-wrote the screenplay for the 2005 Steven Spielberg movie Munich among many other works.
In public Mr. Kushner has been extremely critical of the nation of Israel and although he has stated, “People claim that I’m for a one-state solution, which is not true,” the entertainment writer has also said, “there might be a merging of the two countries because geographically [they’re] kind of ridiculous looking on a map.”
Mr. Kushner becomes just the latest celebrity to cash in on President Trump by sowing divisiveness in America while promoting a skewed vision. From promising to move to Canada to promoting “resistance” of the duly elected government, A-List celebrities such as Madonna, Cher, Ed Asner and Robert DeNiro as well as B and C-List celebrities like Lena Dunham and Rosie O’Donnell have all seemed to have forgotten that “love trumps hate”. With streams of hate towards President Trump, his administration, and supporters, one has to wonder when social media will begin to clamp down on the violence that is being incited non-stop and unfettered on those platforms. While Twitter removes conservative accounts that parody the hypocrisy of the left, it allows users that openly promote violence to remain unchecked. Under the guise of hate-speech, opinions differing from those of the radical progressive left are being silenced and removed. One must certainly wonder when the liberal elite like Manhattanite Mr. Kushner will realize that if it’s funded by major corporations, billionaires, hedge funds, celebrities, and Establishment Media – it might not actually be a ‘resistance’ but instead an attempted coup.
Former President Barack Obama awarded Mr. Kushner a National Medal of Arts in 2013.
